Obituary

Ramona "Mona" Sanchez, beloved mother to a son, two daughters, five grandchildren, and a great
granddaughter, of Los Angeles, CA, passed away on June 2, 2024, at her home in Santa Fe Springs, CA. at
the age of seventy-seven.

Mona was born at the family residence in Boyle Heights, CA. on August 31, 1946, to Lucio G. Vasquez
and Frances M. Vasquez. Mona attended the original Santa Isabel Catholic School on Boyle Ave. as well
as the new location built in 1959 on Soto Street and Whittier Blvd. She went on to attend Hollenbeck Jr.
High and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School class of Winter 1964. After High School, she
attended Business College and learned the job essentials of that era, typing, shorthand, filing, and
telephone etiquette. She worked for the County of Los Angeles for over forty years, with most of her
career as a Supervising Medical Transcriber Typist for the LA County Coroners' Office.

Mona was briefly married to John Sanchez who was born 1940 and died in 1983. Together they had
three children, Lorenzo (passed at 7 days old in 1965), Carole (1967), and Dolores (1969). She was a
devoted single mother to Carole and Dolores Sanchez her entire life. Her daughters both attended Santa
Isabel Catholic School, Hollenbeck Jr. High, and Roosevelt High School like their mother.

Mona was preceded in death by her son Lorenzo Sanchez, parents Lucio and Frances Vasquez, and
brother Edward Vasquez.

Mona is survived by daughters Carole and Dolores, and her beloved grandchildren; Heather Sanchez
(1986), Arnold "Arnie" Gutierrez Jr. (1991), Alex Martinez (1994), Raquel Martinez (1995), and Angel
Martinez (2001). Her grandson Arnold blessed her with a great granddaughter Aiden Gutierrez (2009).
Her greatest joy in life was being a grandma and great grandma and bragging about her grandchildren to
anyone who would listen.

She is also survived by siblings Gilbert J. Vasquez and his wife Nellie, sister Angelina "Angie" Guerrero
and her husband Guadalupe "Joe", brothers John Vasquez, Gerard "Jerry" Vasquez, and Pedro "Peter"
Vasquez, all who will never forget the love, kindness and support she brought to their lives. Her brother
Gilbert gave her the gift of being called auntie by his children Teresa "Terry", Frances "Pappy" and
Gilbert "Mister". She was also great aunt to Terry's children Erika, Sabrina, Clarissa, and Gabrianna
Martinez.

Although Mona was no longer married, she remained in contact and loved her nieces, nephews, and in-
laws of the Sanchez family. She is also survived by countless friends and extended family members who
will miss her dearly.

Mona was a member of the American Legion Post 272 Auxiliary of Montebello, CA. She loved to support
their fundraisers with donations and her time. She also enjoyed attending their events and listening to
the bands play in the lounge. She adored her American Legion family. Mona also proudly served the
Neighborhood Watch in Boyle Heights for LAPD Hollenbeck Station.

One memorable thing about Mona, she had a way with talking to anyone anytime. She would go
shopping, the doctor's office, the park on her walks, the community center, the gas stations, nail salon,
hair salon, or any donut shop. She would have an amazing story to tell about someone new she met. She
had details about each individual and would brag that she informed them that she is "The Duchess of
Boyle Heights".

Although our hearts are broken and we will miss her dearly, we will one day meet again.
