It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Timothy Ignatius Griego, born on February 2, 1971, to Victor Robert Griego and Gloria Mary Griego. Timothy, a husband, father, son, brother, Godfather, uncle and friend, left us suddenly on November 29, 2024.

Timothy grew up in the City of Commerce, CA.  He attended St. Alphonsus School and later graduated from Miraculous Medal School. He continued to high school at St. Paul through his sophomore year, before completing his high school journey, he transferred to Bell Gardens High School, where he played varsity basketball and graduated in 1990. He was a proud Bell Gardens High School Alum.

Timothy devoted much of his life to serving his community. He worked for both the City of Commerce Parks and Recreation Department and the LA County Sheriff's Department, where he met his wife, Ana. His passion for sports and mentorship led him to become the head coach of the freshman basketball team at Salesian High School. He also coached the JV football team at Salesian and Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School, alongside his brother, Chris Griego.

Later in his career, Timothy continued his commitment to youth development by coaching a youth basketball team in the City of Commerce, the "Commerce Phantoms." Affectionately known as "Timmy," he played an important role in coaching and mentoring countless young athletes from the City of Commerce, the community where he grew up.

Timothy's love for athletics extended beyond coaching, he also officiated numerous basketball, football, and volleyball games. Through both his coaching and officiating, he remained loyal in his dedication to fostering sportsmanship and teamwork, instilling these values to young athletes.

Timothy was a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Raiders, UCLAand Lakers.  One of his most recent favorite things to do was attending high school football games on Friday nights with his daughter Gianna and as a proud alumnus of Bell Gardens High School, he also attended recent football games.

Most recently, Timothy volunteered as a counselor at Pomona's Halfway Home and worked at the Union Homeless Shelter in El Monte, where he made a significant difference in the lives of those facing hardship.
